Blaise Smith
To mark the exhibition, SCHOOLWORK, the Crawford Art Gallery were delighted to invite students from St. Joseph's Boys N.S, Educate Together, Scoil Cholmcille, St. Angela's College, Ursuline Secondary School and Ashton Secondary School to meet with the artist Blaise Smith, and participate in a free drawing workshop.
Blaise generously offered to meet with local students who might be curious about painting and drawing. Passionate about drawing, ‘drawing is a stepping stone to making things real’, Blaise has lots of drawing tricks and tips for young budding artists, and he is currently working with the publisher Gill & Macmillian on a drawing workbook for children aged 9 -12.
SCHOOLWORK is the result of a commission in which Blaise Smith ARHA spent a year painting and drawing the everyday in Presentation College, Carlow. Blaise has exhibited widely and has won many awards, commissions and been selected in numerous juried exhibitions, notably the RHA Annual in Dublin and the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London. He was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2012. (More info at www.crawfordartgallery.ie and www.blaisesmith.com)
