Public Talk by Dr Mary Jane Boland
Following a stint at the National Gallery of Ireland, Mary Jane Boland completed a PhD at the University of Nottingham under the supervision of Prof. Fintan Cullen, where her research focused on art and identity in pre-famine Ireland. From 2013 to 2015, she taught eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British and Irish art at the University of Nottingham and then at University College Cork. She has published various essays and articles on her work, the latest in a volume on the nineteenth-century Irish urban space with the Liverpool University Press. She currently lives in London and works as a research associate for Lord David Puttnam, but still pursues her art historical work- whenever she can!

Much like exploring Cork by foot, this selection of visual responses to its laneways and thoroughfares, vistas and landmarks affords the viewer a circuitous journey through the city’s urban fabric and serves as a visual reminder of our deep and shifting history.
The exhibition Under the Goldie Fish will run until 20 January, 2018
