Great Houses of Cork and Kerry: An Oral History
Great Houses of Cork and Kerry: An Oral History
20 – 28 August 2011

Selected filmed excerpts from Great Houses of Cork and Kerry: An Oral History produced by Tralee based historians Maurice and Jane O' Keeffe will be screened in the Long Room throughout National Heritage Week (20 August - 28 August 2011).

Maurice O'Keefe will provide a visual display and talk in the lecture theatre of the Crawford Art Gallery on Thursday 18 August at 7.00pm.

This oral history is comprised of 50 hour long recordings with the descendants of the families who owned, or still own, these historic buildings.

A rare collection of historical family photographs, never before seen in public, have also been compiled, courtesy of these families.

Recalling their family stories and memories from earlier times in Ireland, the voices of the following people may be heard, while examining those old family photographs:

Lord Monteagle: Glanleam, Valentia, Co. Kerry And Mount Trenchard, Foynes, Co. Limerick.

The Hon. David Bigham, The Lansdowne Estates, Kenmare, Co. Kerry

Sir. Anthony Denny, Tralee, Co Kerry And Its Vicinity

Sir Cosmo Haskard, Bantry And Glengariffe, Co. Cork.

The Butler Family, Waterville, Co. Kerry.
